HUFF invites you to a shorter than usual “Loose Cannons” meeting July 18, 2024 1:30 – 2:30 and possibly longer at the Sub Rosa Cafe 703 Pacific next to the Bike Church

++++   Athena’s will likely have a more informal Loose Cannons meeting format.  With occasional mutters from Bathrobespierre.  

++++   The meeting will be shorter than usual with many members going to support the presentation to the Mental Health Advisory Board (MHAB] at 5200 Soquel with a proposed advisory letter seeking to end or soften the sweeps/raids on homeless survival encampments on Coral St. and elsewhere in so far as the County Sheriffs are involved.  

++++   The location of this meeting will be at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, Community Room, 5200 Soquel Avenue, Santa Cruz. Enter Building C, go to the right when you enter, pass the restrooms and you will find the Community Room.   It runs from 3 to 5.  Rides from Sub Rosa will likely be available.

++++  Announcements:  Fri July 19 6 PM Stop the Sweeps Protest at the 418 Project across from Lens Arts on N. Riverside  Peaceful presence outside Rep. Jimmy Panetta and Mayor Fred Keeley’s appearance at 418 Project at 155 River Street (Galleria) for the event: It Can’t Happen Here, A Nationwide Celebration of Resistance to the Nomination that Could Destroy Democracy. (Also on Friday, Panetta will be speaking at 11 am at the Seymour Marine Center, 100 McAllister St., Santa Cruz; The Palestine-Justice group will be there with banners and signs.

++++  Sunday, July 21, 2-4pm, Vigil at San Lorenzo Park, Santa Cruz.  Speakers include Rolla Ayadi, who has family in Gaza and Stephen Zunes, Middle East scholar. Singing led by Bob Reid, Gail Swain and Michael Levy ++++   Street Reports with particular focus on recent police attacks on encampments

++++   Preliminary analysis of excuses used to destroy survival encampments locally

++++   Possibly reviewing the Refugee Property Losses from Coral Street Demolitions (Athena)
