\nLast Thursday, a group of \npeople, many of them elderly and disabled, were swept away from their \nsidewalk encampment next to Laurel Park (near London Nelson Center) on \nWashington. \nHalf a dozen cop \ncars and 10-15 cops and rangers took all their survival gear–clothing, \nblankets, tents.  Police arrested Cooper d\u2019Angelo, jailing her for 10 \nhours.   Her “crime”, she said, was a small\n pile of marijuana ash left on the sidewalk by someone else. A arrested \nher for smoking (which she denies) “near a school.”  \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Early\n that week police repeatedly woke up Cooper her partner Russell. \nThey gave them 10\n false citations for “impeding foot traffic”.  Cooper said they only \ntook up half the sidewalk and a wheelchair could pass by. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Police\n seizures of homeless survival gear are ongoing in spite of the federal \ncourt\u2019s Martin v. Boise decision and the City\u2019s lack of Shelter. \nIf your property or person is threatened by police, rangers, security guards, or hostile NIMBY’s,\nCall<\/strong> 221-6310 to report police theft. \n<\/strong>The Santa Cruz Homeless Union<\/em><\/strong> and other groups are planning a retaliatory lawsuit. \nPolice “property pick-up” hours are absurdly limited:\n Tuesday\n (11 AM – 3 PM) (and Thursday 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
