The \nCity-acknowledged survival camps&#8211;both those across from Coral St. and \nat the Benchlands, plus homeless-run ones around the City.&nbsp; Not to \nmention portapotties,\n wash stations, and trash cans appearing spottily here and there (but \nnot much in the Pogonip).\n<br>\n<\/li><li><strong>Expanded Police Powers:&nbsp;\n<\/strong>Reining\n in &#8220;emergency&#8221; powers seized by Bernal, Mills, and City Department\n Heads.&nbsp; Anticipating and preempting the return of the Mills\/Condotti \nPolice Powers 8-point Repression program as well as the &#8220;improved&#8221; \nCamping Ordinance slithering its way through the CACH committee.&nbsp;\n<br>\n<\/li><li><strong>City Council\n Doom Report: <\/strong>Yesterday&#8217;s City Council meeting saw reauthorization \nand possible expansion of the &#8220;Ambassadors&#8221; (the rebranded &#8220;Hosts&#8221; of \nolden days), rubberstamping of the Mills\/Bernal removal of the Coral St.\n campground and their rules for the Benchlands\n encampment.&nbsp; As well as no substantive support for tenants.&nbsp; Beiers, \nCummings, and Brown voted in a block on some issues and made a few \ncomments, but took little strong action giving a &#8220;feel good&#8221; unanimous \nillusion to the Council&#8217;s actions.<br>\n<\/li><li><strong>Report on Local Motel\n Room Stats for the Vulnerable:&nbsp; <\/strong>Still\n no new word from Mayor &#8220;NoJustice&#8221;\n Justin Cummings (other than &#8220;tell it to the County workers&#8221;),&nbsp; county \nworker Jessica Scheider, and other local Project Roomkey fund fondlers.<\/li><li><strong>New Indefinite\n Powers for Cops and the Deputized City Employees<\/strong>:&nbsp; Passed last \nnight without any stats showing the need for them.&nbsp; These included the \npower (which the City already has) to reduce a misdemeanor to an \ninfraction.&nbsp; News that the City has given out more than\n 300 $400+ citations for COVID-19 violations with no stats on how many \nwere to folks outside.<br>\n<\/li><li><strong>Resuming Direct Action\n Protests: <\/strong>Corporate\n and conservative &#8220;Lift the Shelter in Place &amp; Open\n the Public Beaches&#8221; protesters may be at Cowell&#8217;s Beach again 3-5 PM on\n Friday May 29th.&nbsp;&nbsp; HUFFsters might consider a socially-distanced picket\n line or honk in outside the residences of City and County officials to \ndemand immediate action to occupy and open\n Motel rooms for vulnerable folks outside.&nbsp; <br>\n<strong><\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Reports of\n Vehicle Tows Are on the Rise:&nbsp; <\/strong>With rumored countersuits by the \nACLU and Anthony Prince&#8217;s Santa Cruz Homeless Union not happening here \n(though some action reported in Sacramento).<br>\n<strong><\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Support for Possible\n City&nbsp;Action Against <em>Food Not Bombs&nbsp; \nFunding exists, promises are made, promises are broken.<br>\n<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>The inadequate \n&#8220;normal&#8221; charitable activities of those working with churches, social \nservices, etc. have been cut back or closed&#8211;many of the staff\n of these organizations are over 60 and particularly vulnerable to the \ncorona virus.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Normal \ndonations to those directly seeking survival money through &#8220;panhandling&#8221;\n have been discouraged or criminalized under the new emergency regs,\n enacted without public discussion or vote.&nbsp;
