<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>City\n Council continues to defy the demands of the Community regarding police\n defunding to curb police violence, discrimination, homeless harassment,\n and overspending.  It has NOTHING on its agenda regarding shifting \nfunds to non-violent alternatives.  Item #20\n attempts to veto its own Commission report defending the \nshelter-in-place needs of van-dwellers on Olive St. \n
\n<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>
\n<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>The\n D.A. and the SCPD have still not dropped inflated and groundless \ncharges against MARTY MIRABEL (“PIRATE”) for defending his friend Ben’s \nvehicular home from a massive police raid in violation of CDC \n“shelter-in-place” guidelines.   After a gang of nearly a\n dozen officers surrounded him and slammed Marty to the ground, police \ncontinue to cite and harass Ben in spite of the CDC requirements and the\n<\/em><\/strong><\/em>Martin\n v. Boise<\/em> decision prohibiting such official terrorism.
\n<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>
\n<\/strong>While\n six motels have reportedly  been funded to assist some of the \nvulnerable houseless, many more remain half-empty.  There are no indoor \nareas set aside for the toxic air quality alerts, the smoke danger, and \ncooling functions–particularly impactful of those\n outside, and of the broader community–given the COVID-19 pandemic.  \nDangerous COVID-19 vulnerable group shelters at the Vet’s Hall, Armory, \n“Housing Mumblings” Paul Lee Loft, and Laurel St. continue to be the \nmain “go to” for police”  as a warehousing “alternative”\n when they threaten the visually “undesireable” outdoor camps. 
\n<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>Those\n camps–in the Pogonip, along and under Hiway 1, along the levee, \ncontinue to be starved of resources like porapotties, wash stations, and\n trash pick-up’s.  City Manager Martin Bernal’s Bumbuster Police, \nRangers, and Public Works crews seem to be removing or\n reducing previous COVID-19 “emergency” accommodations in defiance of \npublic health needs.   Encampments along the San Lorenzo pathway near \nthe Broadway bridge and along Hiway 1 at River St. have multiplied \nexponentially after the City and County created more\n refugees with their show-encampment in the Benchlands, running off the \nlarger camp that was there in a repetition of earlier homeless \ndispersals.  Food to those in the few hotels made available is \nreportedly being cut back.
\n<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>
\n<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>No\n indication that vendors on Beach St. have been invited to resume their \nfamily-sustaining sidewalk businesses down near the Boardwalk.<\/strong>
