The July 20, 2023 edition of Bathrobespierre’s Broadsides is a Flashback to December 2, 1999 which includes:

+++  In-studio guest Councilmember Chris Krohn ducking questions about whether he supports substantive action to end the Sleeping Ban and to curb police abuse

+++  Krohn finally cites “the homeless”, a downtown plaza, and entertainment fees, not ready to introduce rent control.

+++  Krohn cites Council achievements:  skateboard park prep, grant seeker, tidelands acquisition prep,

+++  Rotkin joins Krohn in-studio:  the Shoulder Tap law:  if you ask another person to get you a beer  and you’re under 21, and they buy you a beer it’s a crime; so why make simple speech a crime?

+++  Bathrobespierre notes SCPD chief Belcher has presented three different laws on three different years for youth curfew, levee walking after dark, and now the shoulder tap law—all without statistics that get rubberstamped.

+++   Former juvenile court worker Mike Smith expressed concern about possibility of youth getting a record; Krohn notes can’t youth be sent to juvenile hall if already on probation; what if parents not home?; target adult suppliers not the youth; law a move-along, stay-away ordinance from cops and merchants

+++   Video broadcaster Becky Johnson vs. former Mayor Mike Rotkin: businesses seeking to expand stay-away orders

+++   Jeff’s report from the WTO protests in Seattle
