Rough Draft of a flyer to be circulated at the Xmas meal at the Vets Hall at 11:30 AM: Join us (with umbrellas at the ready) if you wish.
Where to gather for emergency walk-in Winter Protection?
+++ Supes, City Council, City Mangler had no walk-in Winter Shelter as rainstorms approach.
+++ MHCAN, Downtown Street Team, operational drinking fountains, warming centers…gone.
+++ Escalating police attacks on homeless survival encampments are real threats to community well-being.
+++ This year’s homeless dead list had no street or last names at the Portuguese Hall Housing Matters memorial. Puff, the homeless dead are invisible!
+++ 2025’s Half-Named Victims: Katelyn L, Daniel B, Abbie S, Jesus D, Yesenia S, Matthew S, Omar L, John F, Bonifacio A, Guzmaro J, Devin S, Tommy B, Terrance F, Ryan H Scott R, Warren T, Jeremiah V, Ivy B, Michael S,John K, Nathan B, David D, Jeffrey R, Matthew L, Lance M, Arturo D, Michael A, Paul A, Karyn S, Birge S, Steven M, Daniel S, Fred A, Carol E, Jose C
+++ Brent Adams of the one-time Warming Shelter says: WHAT THE FUCK!? For 10 years in a row, the shelter I founded and ran opened during rain and cold weather. Warming Center Program would activate based on forecasts of more than 1″ of rain or temperatures below 38 degrees. There is currently a forecast of 4 out of 5 days with more than 1″ of rain, yet the “People First” shelter has nothing planned. The program I ran operated in Santa Cruz and Watsonville and received less than 5% of it’s operating budget from governmental sources – while the current system is 100% city and county funded. We as a community need to demand better for those who sleep outside.
