HUFF moves from Sleep-Out to Talk-In, Meets 8-26 Wednesday Sub Rosa 11 AM

Sleepy HUFFsters:  Survivors of the 7th Freedom Sleepers Event at City Hall tonight and any others interested are invited to staggerover to the Sub Rosa at 11 AM at 703 Pacific Ave.  I have been assured the Cafe will be open for business (unlike last week when we had to have a coffee-less meeting).

On the agenda:  City Council’s Silence on Emergency Shelter…Proposed Actions Targeting Upcoming New City Staff Horrors (RV Crackdown)…Hopeful Federal Signs in the Wind?…and more as long as we can stay awake…

HUFFin’ Down the Road: Sub Rosa 8-19 11 AM

Agenda Likelies:   Cafe HUFF and/or HUFF at the Heavies visit sometime in the next week to P & R Director Dannette Shoemaker to clarify whether a Stay-Away Order is now a mandatory part of every in fraction; the Proposed RV parking ban city-wide at night likely to be on the next City Council agenda; Support for the Freedom Sleepers;  liaison with the ongoing Sacramento struggle to ban harassment of RV resters…and all this over cup after cup of free coffee!

Cautionary Note:  Our membership may be reduced if police choose to use stern measures to abrogate our basic right to peaceful protest near City Hall.  In theory arrests could prevent some members from attending.  In this case, I encourage folks to proceed with those items on the agenda they fancy.

I also encourage folks to visit the Freedom Sleepers Sleep-Out tonight, even if you choose not to stay.  It will be going from 5 PM through 7  AM tomorrow (Wednesday) morning

HUFF Stumbles On–Sub Rosa 8-12 11 AM

In the aftermath of the latest SleepOut at City Hall (and SpeakOut to City Council), we’ll consider HUFFish next steps to hold particular departments accountable for their latest attacks on the homeless–either with 24 Hour Parking Ban near the Homeless Way Lack of Services Center, the proposed RV parking ban city-wide, the missing 24 hour bathroom (Locust St. remains closed at night), national solidarity with police abuse in Ferguson (Black Lives Still Matter…as do Homeless Lives).

If Sub Rosa is closed, retire to the Cafe Pergolesi–but wait until at least 11:15 p.m. before giving up on Sub Rosa.

Coffee is likely to be there and drinkable as usual.

HUFF at mid-Summer: Still scheming sleepouts and sipping coffee 11 AM 8-5 Sub Rosa

Bubbling up in the HUFF cauldron this time:   Police High Command Orders and Procedures Around Stay-Away Law; Supporting the Sunday SleepOut?, The Tuesday Day-and-Night Sleep-About at City Hall with the Freedom Sleepers; Dogging Disability Discrimination; The latest Ha-ha from the Homeless (Lack of) Services Center on their Admission Policies…and whatever blowsin the door…

HUFFing Again! 11 AM 7-22 Wednesday at the Sub Rosa!

Looks like another HUFF hoedown at the Sub Rosa with a focus on the ongoing Community Campout, which is informally slated to kick off another Sunday night at City Hall (or perhaps a mystery spot TBA!).    Reports will be coming on the latest ticketeer-monitors who are talleying up the many anti-homeless P & R cites for the last few months.  We’ll be discussing daytime actions at City Hall to hold the City accountable and expose ongoing anti-homeless schemes–like the “No Parking for the Poor” program near the now closed-to-the-general-homeless-population Homeless (Lack of) Services Center.   Also up on the agenda, Panhandling for the Povertypimps–the latest “give us the cash while we cut services” plans of Claudia Brown and the HLOSC directors…  And more on UCSC homeless organizing as well…   All this and java to sip!

HUFF again Wednesday 11 AM Sub Rosa 7-15

Devoted HUFFsters have been gathering P & R info around Stay-Away’s and harassment infraction tickets;  the immiseration scene downtown and around the town has increased with the shutting down of services at Coral St., Campout #2 is coming up this Sunday at the Main Post Office.  Discussion coming up of what to do to pry loose important information from the City Staff.  Non-lethal forms of protest to draw attention without resulting necessarily in tickets.  Talk and maybe some action…along with cups of coffee and the occasional crunchable.

HUFF puffs on Wednesday 11 AM at Sub Rosa (or Cafe Pergo if S.R. closed)

HUFF will be chatting and chugging about the implications of the one-night sleepout, homeless participation and expectations, closing in on City Council staff to get hard answers, and documenting hard data on recent homelessness citations (currently gathering dust at City Hall).  Rumor is there’ll be coffee available.

HUFF chugs along tomorrow 7-1-15 at the same Sub Rosa Station…

Looming is the  “Homeless Lives Matter”  Community Camp kickoff on July 4th 6:30PM on the sidewalk next to the main Post Office.     Paul Lee loft closed “for a week” yesterday.   As did meals and presumably showers, shitter, and laundry for the “not in programs” homeless.  No budget yet or other clear answers.   What will HUFF’s role be in this “rolling campout”?  Chat, scheme, organize!

HUFF does its usual; Wednesday June 24th Sub Rosa 11 AM 703 Pacific

Front and center on the HUFF agenda is the “Homeless Lives Matter”  Cafe HUFF breakfast slated for Thursday 6-25 at 10 AM at the corner of hiway 9 and hiway 1.    Last week, CHP and SCPD ganged up on the oatmeal cookers–we’ll see what’s on the menu for this Thursday.  Updates on the City Council and Board of Supes meeting, today’s Sin Barras monthly demo against Solitary Confinement, and what the Good Times left out of the expose on Deputy Chief Steve Clark.  check it out.
