HUFF Meeting Tomorrow

HUFF meets tomorrow 11 AM at ye olde Sub Rosa Cafe.
We’ll be updating on anything learned at the Project Homeless Connect. (google “Project Homeless Connect” for more info)
There’s the Campaign to Protect Public Parking Places Near 115 Coral St.-
(Marlin Granlund of the Parking Permit Bureau is still stonewalling on who can contest his “Dump the Homeless from Harvey West” 24-Hour Ban on Parking near 115 and the Homeless (Lack of) Services Center).
And the upcoming Speak-Out Saturday-
HUFF will be throwing a speak out (and perhaps a shriek out) Saturday May 16 at the Food Not Bombs meal near the Main Post Office downtown. The day before the National Postal Union will be having a rally in the same place (time uncertain).

NORSE NOTES:  I have little confidence that the state Legislature will pass this bill, but here’s a chance to get in an e-mail or phone call before a 1:30 PM deadline tomorrow.    I’ve asked Councilmember Micah Posner to author a Right2Rest local bill, which he said he’d happily do if someone else would support it.  Otherwise, no go.

AB718 says:
The legislative body of a city, county, or city and county shall not prohibit, or otherwise subject to civil or criminal penalties, the act of sleeping or resting in a lawfully parked motor vehicle.

Please call or send an email asap.  The hearing is Wed May 13 at 1:30.  So a call or email even the morning of May 13 may is still worth it.
Just email or call (or both!) and say Assemblymember Gordon – please support AB718 to allow people to rest or sleep in a legally parked car.

HUFF weaves and wanders again Sub Rosa 5-6-15 11 AM

After a heavily surveilled and cramped protest today, HUFF veterans will return from the wars to report their latest on the fight to save Parking spaces on Coral, Fern, and Limekiln streets.  Some tabling may be in the offing at the Farmer’s Market.  We’re still hoping to hear from the Obamaphone Seeker.  And there was a May Day Sit protest in Monterey, rumor has it. Other concerns: Tightening up at the Red Church, Performer reports from Pacific Avenue, and more prospects as I work through the nite….  There will be coffee!

Homeless Lives Matter! HUFF meeting 11 AM – 1 PM Sub Rosa

Like to be up for chatter and choices:   Wednesday Info-Gathering and Rights-Asserting Protest at the Metro or Possibly Starbucks…The Baltimore Uprising–Its Implications for Us in Santa Cruz…Permit Parking Around the Homeless (Lack of ) Services Center–Being Pals with the Prejudiced Goes Sour…The Homeless Dumping Issue and Neal Coonerty…Return of the Prodigal Rabbi–Phil Posner Back in Town with “Camp of Last Resort”…and, of course, more.

HUFF charts known and unknown lands 4-22 11 AM Sub Rosa Cafe 703 Pacific

HUFF legions will gather under cloudy skies, perhaps seeking shelter indoors in the catacombs of the Sub Rosa Cafe at 703 Pacific at the usual 11 AM time.

Likely to be on the agenda:  Updates on the Stay-Away Law Suit court hearing on Monday morning, Monday’s Public Safety Committee,  Tuesday’s Supervisor’s “Build a Fence Around the Back of the Jail” vote, Tuesday’s Downtown Accountability Project vote, Prospects for a restored Alliance of activists re: police abuse and militarization, mixing it up with the Metro Security thugs…and whatever comes our way.  Along with the traditional coffee and crunchables.

Step Up to HUFF 11 AM Sub Rosa 4-15

Agenda-likely items:   Next steps in the Small Claims Court Sleep Deprivation Saga; LibraryWatch, ShelterWatch, or CourtWatch–which way to go?; Right 2 Rest Updates and Support Demo; Keeping Up the Pressure on Police Violence Locally; Parks and Rec Stat Gathering and Crunching…with a Copwatch and Homeless Zine meet also slated for 1 PM after the HUFFmeet.   The usual coffee and crunchables are likely to be available.

Getting HUFFy again at 11 AM 703 PACIFIC April 8 at the Sub Rosa

HUFF toddles on looking over the latest attack on Medical Marijuana and its impact on low-income folks here,  surveys the Right 2 Rest scene in Sacramento after today’s protest and Senate Housing and Transportation Committee vote, scopes out a Thursday Back-to-the-Library Cafe HUFF at 9:30 AM 4-9,  considers Armory closing on or around the 15th, and considers new strategies for an independent campaign against police militarization re: the homeless.  Report on the Monterey sit-lie protests, Berkeley’s Ambassador-Host homeless beating, and more!   All with coffee and crunchables.

Heading into April with HUFF 4-1 11 AM Sub Rosa: No Foolin’

HUFF agenda candidates:  Follow-Up on the BigJohnWatch at the Library; Lobbying and Updates on the Right to Rest Law coming up for Transportation Committee Hearing;  Creating a Santa Cruz R2R law; Supporting the First Friday Sitting Ban Protest in Monterey; Non-Report from Berkeley’s People’s Park; …and too much other stuff–as usual.  We supply the coffee; you supply the frenzy.

Late But Still Standing: HUFF meets as usual 3-25, Sub Rosa !

Preoccupied with yesterday’s irrelevant City Council meeting and the impotent “protest” there, I apologize for not putting out the “HUFF will meet” teaser.  But we’re meeting.  Same place: 703 Pacific.  Same time: 11 AM.

Possible topics:  Guiding the homeless through Small Claims Court; Right to Rest legislative support: report on Monday’s Conference call;  Following Up from the City Council/Board of Supes debacle, Lobbying Local “Human Rights” Organizations, “Big John” watch at the Library, and more!   Coffee with or without cream.

HUFF, bloodied but unbowed, convenes 11 AM 3-11 at Sub Rosa

In spite of being censored from the SCRAM (Santa Cruz Resistance Against Militarism) coalition and our name removed from their endorsers in a closed meeting to which HUFF was not invited, we showed up yesterday to support the BearCat Rejection.   Coming UP on the agenda tomorrow will be Reviewing Stay Away Orders by Parks and Recreation at City Hall; Pursuing the Public Safety Committee after it cancelled its Monday meeting; Updates on the Sleeping Ban Slog towards Small Claims Court; Right2Rest lobbying…and more!  Plus coffee, cookies, and gosh knows what else!
